Steff is influenced in her practice by Arnold Beisser’s Paradoxical Theory of Change, which suggests that ‘change occurs when you become what you are, not when you try to become what you are not’. Which Steff explains as meaning that we can’t make ourselves or anyone change in line with some ideal – but we will naturally change in an organic, meaningful, and orderly way if we only allow ourselves and others to be as we and they truly are. Strangely it is only when we stop trying to force ourselves to change that we allow ourselves to be in a state to grow and develop naturally.
An initial session with Steff is all about getting to know a bit about each other and developing a treatment plan, which will work in conjunction with other care from the IHO team to create an overall journey of wellness.
From there, the journey commonly revolves around exploring and learning to trust one’s own self, to make decisions based on a client’s own true values and beliefs. Ultimately answering questions like ‘who am I and what do I want? And what (and who) do I want to bring into my life to get there?’
Outside of work Steff says she is a family-focused ‘crazy cat lady’ to 3 naughty cats, loves cooking (she was a chef for many years), going on outdoor adventures with her husband, loves all types of music, is a passionate Zumba student, and is all about exploring all the weird and interesting things in life & the world.
